Taking action if things go wrong

The amount of deliberate fraud or dishonesty within charities is low, and most mistakes are honestly made and can be resolved with some help and guidance from us. However, where we have serious cause for concern that a charity’s beneficiaries, assets or reputation are at risk we will have strong legal powers to investigate and intervene.

Our overall aim is to identify and resolve problems with a charity at an early stage, ensuring it’s put back on track to carry out its future work. We will publish reports of our regulatory work to help other charities learn lessons.

For members of the general public who have a complaint about a charity we plan to provide guidance to help them decide who to send it to - in some cases it may not be appropriate to send it to us.
