This sections sets out the information we provide in the interests of accountability and according to Freedom of Information;
Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000, which came into force on 1 January 2005, provides a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities. The Act also sets out exemptions to that right and places a number of related obligations on public authorities. The Act means that anyone, anywhere can ask for any information held by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.
CCNI is required to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme (PDF 122 Kb (Publications Scheme), MS Word 225 Kb (Publications Scheme)). CCNI makes a significant amount of information available to the public routinely which means you don't have to make a specific request for it. Our publication scheme lists:
Making a Request for Information
- classes of information which CCNI publishes or intends to publish,
- the way in which information within each class is, or is intended to be published, and
- whether the material is, or is intended to be available free of charge or on payment.
Individuals have legal rights to access information under the Freedom of Information Act and a right of appeal if they are dissatisfied with CCNI’s response. These rights apply only to information requests made in writing or another recordable format (verbal requests for environmental information carry similar rights). If you are unhappy with our response to your request you can ask us to review it and if you are still unhappy, you can make an appeal to the Information Commissioner.
Once we receive a request, we must reply, in writing, within 20 working days. In our reply, we must confirm whether or not we hold the information, and either provide the information requested or explain why it is not being provided. We may charge a fee before supplying the information you request. If so, we'll write giving details of the amount that must be paid.
FOI requests should be sent to:
